Accounting Coach

The big 3 statements talk to you so much more about a company than sometimes the analysts views or the CEO’s big talks, however, these statements can at times be a maze, I recently came across a wonderful site which explains the basics as well as gives answers to the nagging questions you might have.

The site “ provides FREE online educational material to help you learn the accounting concepts practiced in the United States. The site provides hundreds of pages of explanations, drills, exams, crossword puzzles, and a glossary of over 1,000 terms. was developed by Harold Averkamp, a university instructor and consultant.”

What I found most unique was the kind of question answer(they call it drills) kind of information presentation which helps stick information in your head.

Overall its an amazing learning site and I’m spending quite a lot of time on it.

  1. Excellent link!!!! BTW sanjay, did you happen to get any links that provide historical data for indian companies?!?!?! If you have any, please post them [including the paid ones]

  2. The only good paid source I’m aware of is CMIE

There are others such as Reuters, Capitaline which seem to be more expensive.

  3. Thanks Sanjay,

One more website you can add to your list of indian websites is Even this website provides data for the past five years. I am truly amazed that historical data for the past ten years isnt available anywhere apart from the pricey ones!!!

    Rule 1 Investor

BTW, I am pretty sure you trade online in indian markets… which broker do you use… can you recommend any…I currently use canmoney just because its new and the website is quite fast for online trades… maybe because not many have their accounts on here. Kindly suggest if you have any good ones .. Thanks

  4. Great website suggestion, thank you. I found it to be very helpful in my studies. I also came across and it provides some interactive multiple choice questions with free tutorials on accounting. May be helpful to others.
